Preparing Your Quilt For Quilting
Quilt top:
- Please make sure your quilt top lies flat for best results. Make and attach borders carefully to avoid extra fullness.
- Clip all thread tails and remove all stray threads.
- Please stay stitch 1/8 inch in from the edges of your quilt top to help prevent stretching during the quilting process.
Backing fabric:
- Piece backing fabric with horizontal seams. Remove selvedges from the seams. Make sure the backing lies flat and is square with no uneven edges.
- Backing must be 4 inches larger than the quilt top on each side and on top and bottom (a total of 8 inches wider and 8 inches longer than the quilt top).
Batting:
- Use a good quality batting for best results. I recommend Quilters Dream brand battings in Select loft (medium loft) or thicker. Cotton batting will give a flatter look to your quilt. Polyester or wool will show more definition in the quilting.
- Batting must be 4 inches larger than the quilt top on each side and on top and bottom (a total of 8 inches wider and 8 inches longer than the quilt top).
